The Slayter Center of Performing Arts is a cool outdoor concert stage at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. It's like a big outdoor theater! It was finished in 1964 and officially opened on May 1, 1965. A generous couple, Games Slayter and his wife Marie, gave it as a gift.

What Makes Slayter Center Special?
The Slayter Center is built into a natural hill, making it a huge outdoor amphitheater. It can hold up to 20,000 people, which is a lot! The architect, Joseph Baker, got his idea for the design from Stonehenge in England.
The Stage and Roof
The stage at Slayter Center is very impressive. It's big enough for more than a hundred musicians in an orchestra. Above the stage, there's a giant concrete roof that weighs 200 tons! This heavy roof hangs from strong stainless steel cables attached to a tall steel tripod. Underneath the stage, there are rooms for rehearsals, dressing rooms for performers, and storage areas.
Home of Purdue Jazz Bands
The Slayter Center is a special place for the Purdue Jazz Bands. They often perform here, filling the outdoor space with their music.
Fun Events at Slayter Center
Slayter Center has been the site of many exciting events over the years.
Game Day Pep Rallies
Before 2013, on the mornings of home football games, Slayter Center hosted a big pep rally called "Thrill on the Hill." The Purdue All-American Marching Band would play exciting songs from their halftime shows. Fans could also meet the Purdue Cheerleaders and the mascot, Purdue Pete. They could even see the Boilermaker Special before everyone headed to Ross–Ade Stadium with the band.
Changes to Pep Rallies
From the 2013-2014 school year, the All-American Marching Band moved their pre-game pep rally, called "211 Session," to Mackey Arena. After that, Slayter Center became the place for a post-game concert instead.
"Thrill on the Hill" Returns
Starting in 2017, "Thrill on the Hill" returned to Slayter Center! The All-American Marching Band now performs their pre-game show there again. The post-game concert then takes place on the field at Ross-Ade Stadium.
Movies and Concerts
During the school year, Slayter Center often shows movies on a huge inflatable screen. It also hosts many free concerts throughout the year, which are great for students and the community.
Winter Fun
When winter arrives and snow covers the ground, Slayter Hill becomes a popular spot for students to go sledding. It's a fun way to enjoy the snowy weather!
