About Slobodan Aligrudić

Early Life and Acting Career

Slobodan Aligrudić was born in Bitola on October 15, 1934. He became a well-known actor in Belgrade, especially at the Atelje 212 Theatre. However, most people knew him from his many memorable roles in films.

Famous Film Roles

Slobodan Aligrudić often played strong characters, like people in charge. This was partly because of his serious look. But he always made these characters feel real and human. He starred in many classic movies from the former Yugoslavia. One of his famous roles was in the film Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator.

A great example of his acting was when he played Maho. Maho was a father in the 1981 movie Do You Remember Dolly Bell?. This film was about growing up and was directed by Emir Kusturica.

Working with Emir Kusturica

Aligrudić worked with director Emir Kusturica again in 1985. This was for the famous movie When Father Was Away on Business. In this film, Aligrudić played a government agent. This agent was in charge of helping the main character "re-educate" himself.

His Legacy

Slobodan Aligrudić passed away in Gradac on August 13, 1985. This happened shortly after When Father Was Away on Business won the Palme d'Or. The Palme d'Or is a very important award at the Cannes Film Festival. His death also happened soon after his friend and fellow actor Zoran Radmilović passed away. Many film critics at the time said that the world of cinema had lost a huge talent.

Slobodan Aligrudić's son, Miloš Aligrudić, later became involved in politics.
