Small Town Brewery is a company that makes special flavored drinks. It is located in Wauconda, Illinois. They are most famous for their "Not Your Father's" brand, which includes popular flavors like root beer and lemonade.
The Story of Small Town Brewery
Small Town Brewery was started in 2010 by two friends, John Dopak and Tim Kovac. Tim Kovac had been making his own drinks at home since 1988. He spent three years working on a special root beer recipe.
In 2012, this unique drink, called Not Your Father's Root Beer, was first sold in Illinois. At first, it was mostly available in large containers for local places. Later, they started putting it into smaller bottles.
In 2015, Small Town Brewery teamed up with a bigger company called Pabst Brewing Company. This partnership helped them sell their "Not Your Father's" drinks all across the country. Because these flavored drinks became so popular, they even helped create a new type of drink category called "hard soda" or "flavored beer."
On October 15, 2015, Small Town Brewery opened a special tasting room in Wauconda. Here, visitors could try 16 different flavors of their drinks. Some of the fun flavors included French Toast, Bourbon Pecan, and Strawberry Rhubarb.
Popular Flavors and Products
Not Your Father's Root Beer is made in a traditional way. It uses many natural ingredients like plants, spices, and herbs. These include things like wintergreen, sarsaparilla bark, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey. These ingredients give it the taste of an old-fashioned root beer.
In 2015, Not Your Father's Root Beer was the best-selling craft drink of its kind in the United States. The company also released Not Your Father's Ginger Ale in November 2015. Later, in 2016, they introduced Not Your Father's Vanilla Cream Ale.
Today, the main products from the "Not Your Father's" line that you can find are the Root Beer and the Lemonade.
Awards and Recognition
Small Town Brewery has received some special awards for their drinks:
- In 2013, their drink won Second Place for "Beer of the Year" at an event called BeerHoptacular.
- In 2014, a group called Beer Advocate gave Not Your Father's Root Beer a very high rating of 94 out of 100 points.
