Smedjebacken is a town in Sweden. It is the main town, also called the seat, of Smedjebacken Municipality. This municipality is located in Dalarna County. In 2010, about 5,100 people lived in Smedjebacken.
The town of Smedjebacken is located right next to Barken, a lake that covers about 34 square kilometers. Lake Barken is part of the Kolbäcksån river system. The water from this system eventually flows into Mälaren, a larger lake to the southeast.
