Smedjebacken Municipality (which is called Smedjebackens kommun in Swedish) is a special area in central Sweden. It is part of Dalarna County. The main town and administrative center of this municipality is Smedjebacken.
The municipality as we know it today was created in two steps. First, in 1967, the market town of Smedjebacken joined back with an area called Norrbärke. They had been separate since 1918. Then, in 1974, another area called Söderbärke was added.
Smedjebacken Municipality shares its borders with eight other municipalities.
The municipality has a special symbol called a coat of arms. It shows a sailing ship and cogwheels. These symbols represent the old and new industries of the area. The coat of arms was first approved in 1947 and has been updated a few times since then.
In Smedjebacken, there is a skiing club called NSKalpin.com. They even have a live web camera showing their ski slope! Close by, in a place called Lernbo, you can find the main office of the biggest sports fishing store in Europe.
