Smith Joseph is a politician and a doctor. He was the mayor of North Miami, Florida. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Joseph was born in Haiti in 1961. When he was 18, in 1979, he moved to Miami, Florida, with his family.
Early Life and Education
Smith Joseph studied at several universities. He went to Florida A&M University. He also attended Nova Southeastern University. Later, he became a doctor. In 2001, he opened his own medical office.
Joseph also helped start a group called the Society of Haitian American Professionals. This group helps people who are professionals and have Haitian backgrounds.
Becoming Mayor of North Miami
In 2014, Smith Joseph was elected Mayor of North Miami. He ran against a former mayor, Kevin Burns. Joseph became mayor after the previous mayor left office.
As mayor, Joseph worked to lead the city. He served the people of North Miami for several years.
End of Term
Smith Joseph served as Mayor of North Miami until 2019. On May 28, 2019, Philippe Bien-Aime took over as the new mayor.
