History of Smith Village
How Smith Village Started
The town of Smith Village began thanks to a woman named Rose Henrietta Smith. She owned a twenty-acre farm. Rose decided to divide her land into smaller pieces to create a new housing area. This development was called the Rose Smith Addition.
Becoming a Town
Smith Village is a very small area, covering only about three-tenths of a square mile. It is surrounded by other cities. Oklahoma City is to its west, and Del City is to its north, east, and south.
In 1952, Del City tried to take over the Rose Smith Addition. To prevent this, the people living there decided to form their own town. They voted in November 1952 to become an official town. Since then, the town has elected its own government from time to time. Services like water and sewer are provided by Sooner Utilities.
