The name "Snow Hill" might have come from a time when early explorers or surveyors saw a ridge covered in snow. For many years, the community had its own church, which was an important place for local people. From 1940 to 2000, the number of people living in Snow Hill stayed around 20.

Snow Hill is found in the northeastern part of Collin County, Texas. It sits on a high point between two creeks, Pilot Creek and Indian Creek. The community is about 10 miles (16 km) northeast of McKinney, Texas, and is close to Texas State Highway 78.
