Snufkin is a super cool character from the Moomin books, written by Tove Jansson. You can find him in six of the nine Moomin books, and he first appears in the second one, called Comet in Moominland. Snufkin is the best friend of Moomintroll, who is the main character of the series. Snufkin loves to travel and doesn't stay in one place for long. He lives a nomadic life, which means he moves around a lot. He only stays in Moominvalley during the spring and summer. When winter comes, he always heads south to warmer places. Snufkin is the son of Mymble and the Joxter. He is also the half-brother of Mymble's Daughter and Little My.
What Snufkin Looks Like
Snufkin always wears his old green clothes and a special wide-brimmed hat. He's had this hat since he was born! He lives in a simple tent, enjoys smoking a pipe, and loves to play his harmonica.
Snufkin's Personality
Snufkin really dislikes people who are too bossy or try to control everything. He especially doesn't like the Park Keeper, who puts up lots of rules and fences. Snufkin once played a trick on the Park Keeper by planting Hattifatteners in his garden. These strange creatures grew and grew, which made the Park Keeper leave!
Snufkin also doesn't like the idea of people owning too many things. He believes that no one should own more than they can easily handle. He even gets upset when the Hemulen tries to put up a sign saying "Moominvalley" because he feels it's wrong to claim ownership of nature. Snufkin once threw his own tent into a gorge. He did this because he thought it was better not to hold onto things that aren't truly important. Instead, he prefers to write a poem when he sees something beautiful.
Snufkin's Wisdom
It's a bit hard to tell how old Snufkin is. He enjoys playing with Moomintroll and the other kids, but he also has serious talks with Moominpappa, who is an adult. Snufkin is very wise and independent, and he has a lot of life experience. Because of this, other characters in Moominvalley often ask him for advice when they have problems. They really look up to him and trust his ideas.
Who Inspired Snufkin?
