Snug Cove is a small community found on the east side of Bowen Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is located right across from Horseshoe Bay on the mainland. Bowen Island is about 6 kilometers (4 miles) wide and 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) long. It is only 3 kilometers (2 miles) west of the mainland. Around 3,700 people live on the island.

Long ago, the Squamish were the first to visit this area. They were hunters and fishers. They used the spot where Snug Cove is now as a temporary camp. The Squamish name for this place was Xwilil Xhwm. This means "fast drumming ground." This name is linked to a Squamish story about how black-tailed deer came to be on the island. When the first European settlers arrived, they found simple homes and a smokehouse built by the Squamish people.

Snug Cove is famous for its marina and its old buildings. Many of these buildings, like the old post office and some small houses, were built in the early 1900s. They were put up by the Union Steamship Company. In the 1920s, Snug Cove was a very popular resort. About 5,000 people would visit, and up to 800 couples could dance at the biggest dance hall in British Columbia! The resort closed down in the 1960s. Today, the Bowen Island Public Library is located in a building known as "The Old General Store."

Snug Cove Marina

The Union Steamship Marina is located in Snug Cove. It can hold boats up to 200 feet long. The Union Steamship Company used to run a busy resort here for most of the 20th century. People would take day trips to Snug Cove. They came for concerts and enjoyed snacks at the company's tearooms. There were also company trips to different picnic spots. Today, the BC Ferries' Bowen Island Ferry docks here. This ferry connects Bowen Island to Horseshoe Bay.
