Snug and Cozi was a funny children's TV show from the United Kingdom. It was a slapstick comedy, meaning it had lots of silly physical humor. The show was about two friendly aliens named Snug and Cozi. They accidentally crashed their spaceship on Earth. There, they met a girl named Emily, who became their new friend.

What is Snug and Cozi About?
Snug and Cozi was a short TV series, with each episode lasting about ten minutes. The main characters, Snug and Cozi, are aliens from a planet called Squadge. Their pink rocket ship was hit by an asteroid while they were traveling in space. This knocked them off course, and they crash-landed on Earth.
A girl named Emily found them after their crash. She decided to help them and keep them safe. Emily hid Snug and Cozi in her garden shed. The aliens speak a language called Squidge. It sounds like gibberish to humans, but sometimes you can hear an English word.
How Snug and Cozi Was Made
The idea for Snug and Cozi came from actor and filmmaker Richard Vobes in 1994. He worked with fellow actor Nigel Cooper to create a short test version of the show. This first version was filmed on 16mm film. The original idea was about aliens living in a shed on a piece of land where people grow vegetables.
In 1996, the TV channel STV decided to make the series. They changed the spelling of "cosy" to "Cozi" in the title. The opening of the show was also changed. However, it still used some of the original animation of the rocket ship. This part showed how the aliens crashed on Earth.
Snug and Cozi always wore their bright spacesuits. They never tried to blend in with people on Earth. Richard Vobes, who created the show, was not completely happy with the TV series. He was not allowed to direct it. Also, many of the funny stunts in the scripts were not done or were faked. He once said that the only real stunt they did was riding a bed down a hill and into a car wash. This happened in the episode called 'A New Home'.
Meet the Characters
- Snug, played by Richard Vobes, wears a yellow and silver spacesuit. Snug often seems a bit silly. He sometimes gets things completely wrong.
- Cozi, played by Nigel Cooper, wears a red and silver spacesuit. He looks a lot like Snug but has a mustache. Cozi seems a bit smarter than Snug, but he also makes mistakes sometimes.
- Emily, played by Sarah Montgomery, is a 10-year-old girl. She found Snug and Cozi after their crash. Emily decided to take care of them. She hid them in her dad's garden shed in the first series. In the second series, they moved to a summerhouse. Emily also took Snug and Cozi on fun trips, like to the beach or her school's sports day.
Show's Popularity
Snug and Cozi was quite popular when it aired on CITV. It had a 32% audience share. This means that nearly a third of all TV viewers in Britain were watching it. At that time, Britain only had four main TV channels.
Even though not many people remember it widely today, you can still watch the show on YouTube. Two series were made, with a total of 16 episodes. A third series was planned, but changes at the ITV Network stopped it from being made.
Live Shows and Tours
Snug and Cozi also appeared on other CITV shows. They were on Wow in 1996. They also visited Scratchy & Co. in 1997 and Timmy Towers in 1998.
In 1998, Snug and Cozi were in a pantomime show of Cinderella. This was at the Doncaster Civic Theatre. They played the roles of the Brokers Men. The audience could not understand their Squidge language. So, Snug and Cozi ate dictionaries and suddenly could speak English!
Snug and Cozi also went on a "Pink Caravan tour." They traveled around Britain in their pink caravan, putting on shows. However, they did not have many performances. During one show, the "Rocket Car" they used caught fire! The fire brigade had to come and put out the flames.
Snug and Cozi Merchandise
The Snug and Cozi TV show has never been released on VHS tapes or DVDs. However, a Snug and Cozi CD called 'Pink Heads' was released in 1997. To promote the CD, Snug and Cozi traveled to London, England. They even gave a copy to the Prime Minister!
Richard Vobes is now writing a series of Snug and Cozi children's books.
Snug and Cozi was also featured in a book. It's called 'The Legends of Kids TV'. In this book, Richard Vobes talked about his time working on the show.
