The Snyder Memorial Methodist Church is a very old church in Jacksonville, Florida. It was built in 1903. You can find it at 226 North Laura Street. The church is on the corner of Laura and Monroe streets in Duval County.

This church was first called Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church. The group of people who started the church, called a congregation, began in 1870. A big fire in Jacksonville in 1901 destroyed their first church building. This new church was built right where the old one stood. J. H. W. Hawkins was the person who designed the building. The church was named Snyder Memorial to honor a former pastor, E.B. Snyder. His children helped pay for the new building. Later, the City of Jacksonville bought the church. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 2013. This list helps protect important historical places.

About the Church Building

The Snyder Memorial Church was built in a special style. This style is called Gothic Revival architecture. It cost $31,000 to build. The church is made from strong granite and Indiana limestone. It has a cool bell tower with a jagged top, like a castle. There is also a beautiful round window with fancy designs. This window looks out over James Weldon Johnson Park. The City of Jacksonville owns the church today.

A Place for Community

The church was also important for community events. It played a part in discussions about fairness for all people. After a difficult event in Jacksonville, the church hosted meetings. People came together there to talk and find solutions. They worked towards making things better for everyone in the community.
