Old Hotels and Apartments

  • 310 West Church Street Apartments: This building, located at 420 North Julia Street in Jacksonville, was once a famous place called the Ambassador Hotel. It was added to the list on April 7, 1983.
  • Carling Hotel: You can find this old hotel at 33 West Adams Street in Jacksonville. It became a historic site on February 28, 1991.
  • Casa Marina Hotel: This beautiful hotel is at 12 Sixth Avenue, North, in Jacksonville Beach. It was added to the list on September 2, 1993.
  • Plaza Hotel: Located at 353 East Forsyth Street in Jacksonville, this hotel was recognized on December 30, 1992. It's part of a group of historic buildings in Downtown Jacksonville.
  • San Jose Hotel: This hotel, at 7400 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville, was added to the list on April 10, 1985. It's part of the special San Jose Estates area.

  • Bethel Baptist Institutional Church: This church, at 1058 Hogan Street in Jacksonville, has been a historic place since April 6, 1978.

  • Mount Zion AME Church: Located at 201 East Beaver Street in Jacksonville, this church was added on December 30, 1992. It's part of the Downtown Jacksonville historic group.
  • Old Jacksonville Free Public Library: This old library at 101 East Adams Street in Jacksonville was listed on January 22, 1987. It's now called the Bedell Building.

These are larger areas or parks that are important for their history.

  • Avondale Historic District: This historic neighborhood in Jacksonville is roughly bounded by Roosevelt Boulevard, Belvedere Avenue, Seminole Road, the St. Johns River, and Talbot Avenue. It was listed on July 6, 1989.
  • Downtown Jacksonville Historic District: This large historic area in Jacksonville is roughly bounded by North Pearl, Beaver, and North Catherine Streets, and Independent/Courthouse Drives. It was added on May 2, 2016.
  • Old Ortega Historic District: This historic neighborhood in Jacksonville is bounded by Roosevelt Boulevard, Verona Avenue, and the St. Johns and Ortega Rivers. It was listed on July 14, 2004.
  • Riverside Historic District: This historic neighborhood in Jacksonville is roughly bounded by the former Seaboard Coast Line railroad line, Riverside and Memorial Parks, the St. Johns River, and Seminole. It was added on March 22, 1985.
  • Springfield Historic District: This historic neighborhood in Jacksonville is roughly bounded by Twelfth, Clark, and First Streets, Hogans Creek, and Boulevard. It was listed on January 22, 1987.
  • Fort Caroline National Memorial: This important historical site is about 10 miles east of downtown Jacksonville. It was listed on October 15, 1966.
  • Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve: This large preserve at 13165 Mt. Pleasant Road in Jacksonville was listed on February 16, 1988.
  • Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park: This fort, about 1 mile south of State Road 105 on New Berlin Road in Jacksonville, was added on September 29, 1970.

  • Cummer Gardens: These beautiful gardens are part of the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens at 829 Riverside Avenue in Jacksonville. They were listed on January 25, 2010.
  • Joseph H. Durkee Athletic Field: This athletic field, also known as J. P. Small Memorial Stadium, is at 1701 Myrtle Avenue in Jacksonville. It was added on July 11, 2013.
  • Evergreen Cemetery: This historic cemetery at 4535 North Main Street in Jacksonville was listed on April 8, 2011.
  • Grand Site: This is a historic site in Jacksonville, but its exact address is kept private to protect it. It was listed on June 20, 1975.
  • Kingsley Plantation: This very old plantation is at the northern tip of Fort George Island at Fort George Inlet in Jacksonville. It was listed on September 29, 1970.
  • Lewis Mausoleum: This mausoleum is in Memorial Cemetery at the junction of Edgewood Avenue and Noncreif Road in Jacksonville. It was added on October 24, 1997.
  • Little Theatre: Also known as Theatre Jacksonville, this theater at 2032 San Marco Boulevard in Jacksonville was listed on July 12, 1991.
  • Mandarin Store and Post Office: This old store and post office at 12471 Mandarin Road in Jacksonville was recognized on October 1, 2001.
  • Maple Leaf (Shipwreck Site): This is the site of a sunken ship called the Maple Leaf, located in the middle of the St. Johns River, about 12 miles south of downtown Jacksonville. It was listed on October 12, 1994, and is a National Historic Landmark!
  • Mission of San Juan del Puerto Archeological Site: This is an archaeological site in Jacksonville, but its address is restricted to protect it. It was listed on March 25, 1986.
  • Norman Film Studios: Located at 6337 Arlington Road in Jacksonville, these film studios were listed on December 29, 2014. They were even named a National Historic Landmark on October 31, 2016!
  • Ribault Inn Club: This club at Fort George Road in Jacksonville was listed on May 11, 2000.
  • St. John's Lighthouse: This lighthouse is located at the U.S. Naval Station in Naval Station Mayport. It was added on June 3, 1976.
  • San Jose Country Club: This country club at 7529 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville was listed on April 10, 1985. It's part of the San Jose Estates area.
  • Village Store: This group of buildings at 4216, 4212, and 4208 Oxford Avenue and 2906 and 2902 Corinthian Avenue in Jacksonville was listed on September 29, 1988.

Former Listing

Sometimes, a historic place might be removed from the list, often because it was changed too much or no longer exists.

  • La Villa Boarding Houses: These boarding houses at 830, 832, 836 Houston Street in Jacksonville were listed on June 21, 1976. However, they were removed from the list on February 24, 1981.
