Sodium manganate facts for kids
Sodium manganate is a special type of chemical compound. Its chemical formula, or unique code, is Na2MnO4. It's made up of tiny parts called sodium and manganate ions. When you see it, it looks like a bright green solid material.
It's interesting because it's not made in the same way as potassium manganate. You can't just mix manganese dioxide with sodium hydroxide to create it. Instead, to make sodium manganate, you need to react hot sodium hydroxide with sodium permanganate. This process releases oxygen gas and forms the sodium manganate.
Because it's a bit trickier to make, sodium manganate is usually more expensive than potassium manganate.
