The National Auditorium of Sodre Dr. Adela Reta is a famous place in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is named after Adela Reta (1921–2001). She was a lawyer and led the Official Service of Broadcasting, Television and Entertainment.

On August 29, 2019, the Ministry of Education and Culture in Uruguay gave the Auditorium a special title. They called it a Historical Monument of Uruguay. This means it is an important building with a lot of history.

The Auditorium is built where the old Urquiza Theater used to be. That theater sadly burned down on September 18, 1971. Today, the National Auditorium is also the main home for the National Ballet of Uruguay.

What Makes the Auditorium Special?

The National Auditorium is located in the old part of downtown Montevideo. It covers a large area, about 25,000 square meters. The building has two main halls, called "Eduardo Fabini" and "Hugo Balzo." These halls are perfect for different kinds of shows. The Auditorium also has an amphitheater, places for art exhibits, and big open areas for people to walk around. There are also rooms for rehearsals and workshops.

Eduardo Fabini Hall: Main Stage for Big Shows

The "Eduardo Fabini Hall" is the biggest hall in the Auditorium. It can hold about 2,000 people. This hall is used for large performances like opera, symphony concerts, and ballet shows.

Stage and Orchestra Pit Details

The orchestra pit in this hall is very special. It can fit more than 100 musicians. The pit has three parts that can move up and down using an automatic system. The stage itself is the largest in Uruguay. It is 27 meters high. The opening of the stage can be changed. It can be as wide as 15.5 meters and as long as 12 meters.

Hugo Balzo Hall: Flexible Space for Smaller Events

The "Hugo Balzo Hall" is smaller, with space for about 280 people. This hall is very flexible. It can be changed easily to fit different types of shows. It is often used for chamber music, which is music played by a small group of musicians.

Recording Studios and Versatility

Today, the Hugo Balzo Hall is a multipurpose room. This means it can be used for many different things. It is great for smaller shows that need a special stage setup. Next to this hall are studios for recording audio and video. These studios record shows happening in the Balzo Hall and other parts of the Auditorium.
