Sojuela's History
Sojuela is divided into two main parts. One part has many new homes built around a golf course. The other part is the traditional village, called "Pueblo," where about 36 people live all the time. The village has a lively bar next to the town hall, which is called the "ayuntamiento."
Sojuela is in the middle of an area famous for growing grapes for wine. It even has two wineries, known as "bodegas." More than half of all the different kinds of butterflies found in Spain can be seen near the village. The co-living space in Sojuela also offers special programs for students, like Erasmus programs.
The Lordship of Sojuela
Long ago, Sojuela was a historical Lordship. This meant it was a territory ruled by a lord. In the 1600s, a man named Don Diego Fernández de Medrano y Zenizeros owned it. He was a priest and a knight in the Order of Santiago. He also owned other important buildings and was a military leader.
Sojuela's Location
The village of Sojuela is located at the bottom of a mountain called Moncalvillo. There are many paths and trails in the area that are great for walking and hiking.
Getting Around Sojuela
During the week, five buses travel in each direction. These buses go around the valley where Sojuela is located and connect to Logroño. On Saturdays, only one bus runs in each direction. There are no buses on Sundays. You can also walk about 45 minutes to the nearby town of Entrena to catch more buses from there.
