History of Soldier
Soldier was first settled in 1877. The town was planned out that same year. It got its name from a nearby stream called Soldier Creek. The city officially became a city in 1896.
Soldier has faced some tough weather. In 1883, a tornado hit the town. It damaged 18 buildings and four people lost their lives. Soldier was also affected by a series of tornadoes in June 2008. One large tornado, about 0.8 kilometers (0.5 miles) wide, caused one death just outside the city.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of Soldier covers a total area of about 0.38 square kilometers (0.15 square miles). All of this area is land.

Soldier High School had a successful sports team in the past. In 1964, the boys' indoor track and field team won the Class BB championship for the state of Kansas.
