Solromar is a small, special community in Ventura County, California. Its name is a mix of three Spanish words: "Sol" (sun), "Oro" (gold), and "Mar" (sea). It's located right on the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway, just north of the famous Malibu coast. This area is known for its amazing beaches and diverse natural beauty.

What Makes Solromar Special?
Solromar is an unincorporated community. This means it's a neighborhood that isn't part of a city, so it's managed by the county government, which is Ventura County in this case. It sits on a narrow strip of land along the coast. This area has some of the most varied and interesting coastal terrain in Ventura County.
Fun at the Beach!
County Line Beach Park is a popular spot in Solromar. It's located right between some of the homes on the ocean side of the highway. This beach is famous for surfing and was even mentioned by the Beach Boys in their 1963 song "Surfin' USA".
The beach is also a great place for scuba diving and freediving. It's easy to get to, and underwater, you'll find lots of kelp forests and reefs. These are like underwater forests and rocky areas where many sea creatures live.
A Little Bit of History
Solromar had its own post office for a while, from 1944 to 1956. The name "Solromar" was chosen from a list of ideas sent in by people living there. The Spanish words "sol," "oro," and "mar" were put together to describe a "golden sunset on the sea."
This community is the only residential area on the Malibu coast that is north of the Los Angeles County line. When Malibu became a city, Solromar was the only community along the Malibu coast that was not included within the new city limits. Even though it's in Ventura County, people in Solromar often use a Malibu ZIP Code for their addresses. Homes in the area use individual septic tank systems for their wastewater. This means each home has its own system to treat and dispose of sewage.
Nature and the Environment
As part of the MariSol neighborhood, a special garden was built. This garden features native plants that grow naturally in California. It also serves as a monarch butterfly waystation. This is a place that provides food and shelter for monarch butterflies as they migrate.
The coastline in Solromar experiences coastal erosion. This means the land along the shore is slowly wearing away. Experts have found that the shoreline erodes by about 0.9-foot per year (0.27 m). Most of this erosion happens during the winter months when storms are more common.
