Something for the Weekend was a fun British TV show that aired on BBC Two every Sunday morning. It ran from 2006 to 2012. The show was all about cooking, trying out new drinks, chatting with famous guests, and showing funny clips from other TV shows. It also had a special part called 'Deja View' with classic TV moments.
The main hosts were Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer. Amanda Hamilton was also a host at the start, and later Louise Redknapp joined the team. The show ended in 2012. After that, Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer started a very similar show called Sunday Brunch on Channel 4.
What the Show Was Like
The show usually followed a set plan each week. Simon Rimmer, who is a chef, would cook a three-course meal and a "lazy brunch" dish. He often had help from the other hosts or even a celebrity guest.
There were always two interviews with famous people. The show also featured clips from other TV programmes that had been on that week. A popular part was 'Deja View', where the hosts and guests would watch an old TV clip and try to guess what year it first aired.
Drinks and Gadgets
Another regular part of the show was about drinks. A mixologist (someone who makes fancy drinks) like Andy Pearson or Wayne Collins would show how to make different drinks. There was also a segment called 'Some Things for the Weekend', which showed off cool new gadgets.
At the end of the show, everyone sat around a table to eat the food Simon Rimmer had cooked. Tim Lovejoy would ask the guests questions that people had sent in. The show was filmed in London.
Why the Show Ended
Something for the Weekend was very popular and had many viewers. However, in January 2012, it was announced that the show would stop in March 2012. This was because of budget cuts for daytime TV shows at the BBC.
Just a month later, in February 2012, good news came out! Channel 4 decided to work with the same production team, Tim Lovejoy, and Simon Rimmer. They launched a new show that was almost exactly the same, called Sunday Brunch.
A Small Problem on TV
On March 29, 2009, something unusual happened during the show. For about six minutes, the TV screen showed a message from BT about general inquiries, then a message about a technical fault. Luckily, the show came back on after a short break.
