Early Life and School
Louise Elizabeth Nurding was born in Lewisham, London. Her father was a builder, and her mother worked at Gatwick Airport. Louise and her two younger brothers grew up in Eltham, London, and Oxted, Surrey. She has said she grew up in a single-parent family with her mum.
When she was 11, Louise won a scholarship to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. This is a famous performing arts school. On her first day, she met Kéllé Bryan, who would later be in Eternal with her.
Music Career Highlights
Starting Out with Eternal (1989–1995)
When Louise was 15, she met music producer Denis Ingoldsby at a club. He was putting together an all-girl group. Louise then introduced Denis to Kéllé Bryan. In 1992, Kéllé and Louise, along with sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett, formed the band Eternal. The group sang R&B music and had many hit songs in the 1990s.
Eternal's first song, "Stay", reached number four on the UK charts. Louise left the group in 1995 to start her solo career. She said she left because she was unhappy and missed home.
Solo Albums and Hits (1998–2001)
By 1998, Louise's solo career was doing very well. Her second album had sold over a million copies. She was featured on the covers of popular magazines.
In 1998, Louise started working on her album Elbow Beach, which came out in 2000. She was much more involved in making this album. She helped write all 12 songs and produce most of them. The first song from Elbow Beach, "2 Faced", went straight to number three on the charts. This was Louise's highest-charting single ever.
After Elbow Beach was released, Louise had one album left on her contract with EMI. In 2001, the record label released a "greatest hits" album called Changing Faces – The Best of Louise. It included all her top ten hit songs, even those she sang with Eternal. The album also had three new songs. It reached number nine in the UK, and Louise went on her second solo tour.
Break from Music (2002–2016)
In 2002, Louise signed a new record deal. She planned to release her fourth solo album in 2004. However, she became pregnant with her son Charley, so the album was never released. The only song released from this time was "Pandora's Kiss/Don't Give Up". This song reached number five and helped raise money for charity.
Return to Music (2017–Present)
In August 2017, Louise shared a picture of herself in a recording studio. This showed she was working on new music. In September 2017, she announced her first live show in over 15 years. The tickets sold out very quickly, so she added more shows.
In 2018, Louise signed a deal with Warner/Chappell UK to release new music. In February 2019, she signed a global record deal with ADA / Warner Music. Her fourth solo album, Heavy Love, was released in 2020. The first song from the album, "Stretch", was released in March 2019 and received good reviews.
On 10 November 2022, Louise released the song "Super Magic". She said she wanted to make music she truly loved. "Super Magic" was her first song released with BMG.
In January 2023, Louise announced her Greatest Hits album. It celebrates 30 years in the music industry and includes five new songs. She also announced she would play Teen Angel in the musical Grease in summer 2023. Louise released new versions of her songs "Just A Step From Heaven" and "Naked" to promote the Greatest Hits album. Her song "High Hopes" came out in April 2023.
On 1 June 2023, Louise performed a concert where her former Eternal bandmate Kéllé Bryan joined her on stage. Louise's Greatest Hits album was released on 2 June 2023.
In September 2023, Louise released an EP (Extended Play) called Lil' Lou. It had five songs that were recorded for her unreleased album from 2003/2004. Also in September 2023, Louise and Kéllé Bryan decided not to join an Eternal reunion tour planned for 2024 due to differences of opinion with the other band members.
