They signed him on 15 January 1991. Liverpool's manager, Kenny Dalglish, paid £350,000 for Jamie. This was a lot of money for a 17-year-old player back then.
Time at Liverpool
Jamie was one of the last players signed by manager Kenny Dalglish before he left Liverpool. Jamie became the youngest Liverpool player to play in a European competition. This happened on 23 October 1991, when he was 18 years and 120 days old. He played against Auxerre in the UEFA Cup.

Unfortunately, a knee injury stopped him from playing much in the 2000–01 season. He had surgery to fix his knee. Because of this, he missed Liverpool's amazing season where they won three cups: the FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup. Even though he was injured, as the team captain, he was asked to lift the FA Cup with vice-captain Robbie Fowler.
