Her Start in Politics
Sonia Castedo began her journey in politics in 1993. She joined a political group called the People's Party, known in Spain as Partido Popular.
In 1999, she was chosen to be a member of the Alicante City Council. This council helps make decisions for the city. By 2003, she became the first deputy to the mayor. This means she was a very important helper to the mayor.
Becoming Mayor of Alicante
On September 17, 2008, Sonia Castedo became the mayor of Alicante. She took over after the previous mayor, Luis Díaz Alperi, left the position. This was a special moment because Sonia Castedo was the first woman to ever be the mayor of Alicante. She held this important role for several years.
She resigned from her position as mayor on December 23, 2014.
