Soraya Post is a Swedish politician who was a member of the European Parliament. She was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Sweden from 2014 to 2019. Soraya Post is part of the Feminist Initiative party. This party works to make sure everyone is treated fairly, no matter their gender. She was also part of a larger group in the European Parliament called the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

Early Work and Community Focus

Soraya Post has always cared about fairness and equality. She worked on issues important to national minorities. She also focused on helping the Romani people. The Romani are a group of people with a unique culture. Soraya helped start a special school in Gothenburg in 2007. This school was called Agnesbergs folkhögskola. She also worked as a commissioner for Sveriges Television, which is a TV company in Sweden.

Becoming a Member of the European Parliament

In February 2014, Soraya Post was chosen to be the top candidate for her party. This was for the European Parliament election in Sweden. The European Parliament is where laws are made for many countries in Europe. On May 25, 2014, the Feminist Initiative party won a seat. Soraya Post became their first elected MEP. This was a big moment because she was the first Romani person in Swedish history to be elected to such a role. She joined the S&D group in the European Parliament in June 2014.

Working for Human Rights and Roma People

As an MEP, Soraya Post worked on many important topics. She was part of a group that supported Western Sahara. She also strongly supported the idea of a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly. This group wants to make the United Nations more democratic.

Soraya Post also started the EU Roma Week. This is an event that happens every year in Brussels. It takes place around April 8, which is International Roma Day. During this week, many groups come together. They include the European Parliament and the European Commission. They discuss ways to help and support Romani people across Europe.

However, Soraya Post explained that her views had changed over time. She clearly stated that she is against child marriages. She believes that children should not be married.
