Lívia Járóka, born on October 6, 1974, in Tata, Hungary, is a well-known politician. She is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). She was first elected in 2004 as part of the Fidesz party.
Járóka made history as the second Romani person. She was also the first Romani woman elected to the European Parliament. Before her, Juan de Dios Ramírez Heredia from Spain served from 1986 to 1999.

Early Life and Education
Lívia Járóka grew up in Sopron, a town close to Hungary's border with Austria. Her father is from the Romani ethnic group. Her mother is Hungarian.
Járóka studied sociology at the Central European University in Warsaw. She received a scholarship from the Open Society Institute. Later, she studied anthropology in Britain. Her studies focused on Romani culture and issues. In 2012, she earned her PhD in Social Anthropology from University College London.
Political Career
Lívia Járóka has been an important voice in the European Parliament. She represents Hungary and the Fidesz party.
Roles in the European Parliament
Járóka has held several key positions. She was a member of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. She also worked with the Delegation for Relations with South Africa. She was a substitute member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. She also worked with the Delegation for Relations with the Korean Peninsula.
In 2014, she took a break from being an MEP. However, she returned on September 15, 2017. This happened after Ildikó Gáll-Pelcz left the European Parliament.
Vice-President of the European Parliament
On November 15, 2017, Járóka was elected Vice-President of the European Parliament. She was re-elected to this role on July 3, 2019. She served as Vice-President until January 17, 2022.

Lívia Járóka is married and has two children. Her daughter was born in August 2003. Her son was born in 2007.

- In 2010, she received the Romanian Foreign Ministry's Excellency Award. This was for her work on social integration of minorities.
- She was given the Presidential Order of Merit of Hungary in 2011. This was for her excellent work during Hungary's Presidency of the Council of the EU.
- In 2011, she won the St. Adalbert Award. This award is from the Hungarian Association of Christian Intellectuals.
- She received an award from the "Fundación Secretariado Gitano" in 2012.
