The Southbank Tower is a tall building in London, England. It's located in an area called Southwark. This building has had a few names over the years, including King's Reach Tower and South Bank Tower.

It was first finished in 1972 and had 30 floors, standing about 111 meters (364 feet) tall. A famous architect named Richard Seifert designed it. In recent years, the tower has been updated and made even taller. It now has 41 floors and reaches 151 meters (495 feet) high. The Southbank Tower looks quite similar to another London skyscraper, Tower 42, which was also designed by Richard Seifert.

Who Used to Be in the Tower?

For many years, the Southbank Tower was the main office for IPC Media. This was one of the largest publishing companies in Europe. They published many magazines and comics.

The Tower in Comics

In the late 1970s, the tower became famous among fans of the British comic book 2000 AD. This comic was published by IPC Media. In the comic's stories, the Southbank Tower was shown as the "Nerve Centre" of the alien editor, Tharg. Tharg was a fictional character who supposedly edited the comic.

In 2007, IPC Media moved their offices to a new building nearby called the Blue Fin Building.
