History of South Branch
The community of South Branch started in the year 1887. Just two years later, in 1889, it got its very first post office. This post office was originally called "Hunt".
However, the name didn't stick for long. In 1893, the post office was renamed to South Branch, which is the name it still uses today. For a short time, South Branch also had a train station. This station was part of the Detroit and Mackinac Railway, helping people and goods travel through the area.
