Exploring South Gyeongsang Province
South Gyeongsang Province, also known as Gyeongsangnam-do, is a very important region in South Korea. It is known for its beautiful landscapes and rich history. The province is home to many cities and counties.
A Look Back: History of Gyeongsangnam-do
South Gyeongsang Province has an interesting history. In 1895, the larger Gyeongsang-do region was divided. The southern part was split into two areas: Jinju in the west and Dongnae in the east.
Just one year later, in 1896, Jinju and Dongnae joined together. This is how Gyeongsangnam-do was officially formed. The first capital city of this new province was Jinju.
Over the years, the capital city moved a few times. In 1925, it changed to Busan. Later, in 1963, Busan became its own special city and separated from the province. Because of this, the provincial capital moved again in 1983, this time to Changwon.
Another city, Ulsan, also separated from South Gyeongsang in 1997. This shows how the borders and important cities of the province have changed over time.
