South Quincy is a neighborhood located in the city of Quincy, Massachusetts. You can find it in the middle-southern part of the city. Braintree is to the south, and Interstate 93 is to the west.

A Look at South Quincy's History

South Quincy grew a lot because of the granite industry in Quincy during the 1800s. Granite is a very hard rock used for building. Some parts of the neighborhood were once farms. These farms belonged to people like Charles Francis Adams, Sr. and Job Faxon. Their land was later divided into smaller pieces for homes and other buildings.

In 1885, the Faxon family gave some land to the city. This land became the beautiful, wooded area known as Faxon Park. Later, in 1987, the Crown Colony Office Park was built here. This office park is located near the Braintree Split. The Braintree Split is where Interstate 93 and Massachusetts Route 3 meet. It was built on the site of an old stone company.
