Southard is a small, unincorporated community located in the southern part of Laclede County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is found on a local county road. This road is about two miles south of a place called Nebo. It is also about 3.5 miles northwest of Lynchburg. A stream named Pine Creek flows near the community's southern side. This creek eventually joins the Gasconade River.
How Southard Got Its Name
The community of Southard was named after an early resident. A post office was opened in Southard in 1906. D. T. Southard was the first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the post office. The community was given his last name. The post office served the area for many years. It finally closed down in 1939.
