Eastern part of the Spantik-Sosbun Mountains

The Spantik-Sosbun Mountains are a special group of mountains. They are part of the much larger Karakoram mountain range. Think of them as a smaller mountain range nestled inside a bigger one. This amazing area is found in Gilgit-Baltistan, which is a region in Pakistan.

Exploring the Spantik-Sosbun Mountains

The Spantik-Sosbun Mountains are a fascinating part of the Karakoram. They are known for their tall peaks and icy glaciers. This subrange offers incredible views and challenging climbs for adventurers.

Key Mountains and Their Heights

This mountain group is named after its two most important peaks.

  • The tallest mountain here is called Spantik. It stands incredibly high at 7,027 metres (23,054 ft). That's over 7 kilometers (or 4.3 miles) straight up!
  • The other peak that gives the range its name is Sosbun Brakk. It is also very tall, reaching 6,413 metres (21,040 ft).

Where Are These Mountains?

The Spantik-Sosbun Mountains stretch for about 120 kilometres (75 mi). They mostly run from east to west.

  • To the north, two huge rivers of ice, the Hispar and Biafo Glaciers, mark their edge.
  • On the southwest side, the Barpu Glacier and the Chogo Lungma Glacier separate them. These glaciers act like natural walls. They divide the Spantik-Sosbun Mountains from the Rakaposhi-Haramosh Mountains.
  • To the southeast, the Braldu River forms another border. This river separates them from the Mango Gusor Mountains.

These natural boundaries show how different mountain ranges and features connect.
