Rakaposhi-Haramosh Mountains facts for kids
The Rakaposhi-Haramosh Mountains are a special group of mountains found within the much larger Karakoram mountain range. Think of them as a smaller, important part of a giant mountain chain. These mountains are located in a beautiful area called Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan.
These mountains get their name from two very famous peaks: Rakaposhi and Haramosh. These two mountains are known for having some of the biggest "prominence" in the world. Prominence means how much a mountain stands out from the land around it, like how tall it is compared to the lowest point connecting it to a higher mountain.
Where Are These Mountains Located?
The Rakaposhi-Haramosh Mountains have natural borders all around them. To the north, you'll find the Barpu and Chogo Lungma Glaciers. Glaciers are like slow-moving rivers of ice!
To the east, the Shigar River forms the border. In the south, two important rivers, the Gilgit River and the mighty Indus River, mark the edge. And to the west, the Hunza River flows, creating another natural boundary.
