Rivers in Pakistan
Population density of Pakistan 2017. Most people in Pakistan live near the Indus River and its smaller rivers.

This article lists the rivers found in Pakistan. Some rivers are entirely within Pakistan, while others flow through other countries too. The rivers are grouped by where their water ends up. The biggest and longest river in Pakistan is the Indus River. About two-thirds of the water used for farming and in homes comes from the Indus and its connected rivers.

Ancient Rivers of Pakistan

  • Ghaggar-Hakra River: This river flows in India and Pakistan, but only during the monsoon (rainy) season. Many people think it is the same as the ancient Sarasvati River, but not everyone agrees. The Hakra is the dried-up channel of a river in Pakistan. It is a continuation of the Ghaggar River from India. Sometimes, but not always, it carried water from the Sutlej River during the Bronze Age. Many old cities of the Indus Valley Civilisation were found along the Ghaggar and Hakra rivers.
  • Saraswati River: This river was one of the major rivers in Ancient India. It does not exist anymore.
