Gomal River facts for kids
The Gomal River (called دریائے گومل in Urdu) is an important river in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It starts in the mountains of south-east Ghazni in Afghanistan.
This river flows into Pakistan and forms a natural border. It runs around the area of South Waziristan. It also marks the boundary between two Pakistani regions: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
After leaving South Waziristan, the Gomal River enters the Gomal Valley in Tank District. This happens near a place called Girdavi, where the Miani tribe lives. The river's water is very important here. Farmers use it to grow crops in the Gomal Valley. They use a special way of watering fields called the Zam system, or Rod Kohi.
The river then continues its journey. It flows through the Damaan plain in Kulachi and Dera Ismail Khan. Finally, it joins the mighty Indus River about 20 miles south of Dera Ismail Khan.

What are Tributaries?
A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river. The Gomal River has several tributaries that add to its water.
Main Tributaries of the Gomal River
The Gomal River has two main tributaries: the Kundar River and the Zhob River. Both of these rivers are found in Balochistan, Pakistan.
The Kundar River
The Kundar River gets its water from melting snow and ice in the Sulaiman Mountains. It flows through Balochistan and eventually joins the Gomal River. The Kundar River starts from the highest point of the Toba Kakar mountain range. For a long distance, it forms part of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Zhob River
The Zhob River (called دریائے ژوب in Urdu) also gets its water from the Sulaiman Mountains. It flows through Balochistan and joins the Gomal River near a place called Khajuri Kachadd. The city of Zhob is located right on the banks of the Zhob River.
Other Smaller Rivers
Both the Zhob River and the Kundar River are the main water channels in the Zhob District. They both flow from the southwest to the northeast. Other smaller rivers and streams that join them include the Baskan, Chukhan, Sri Toi, Sawar, and Surab.
