Sparkman is a small city located in Dallas County, Arkansas, in the United States. In 2020, about 355 people lived there. This was a bit less than the 427 people who lived there in 2010.

Sparkman's Early Days: A Look at Its History
Sparkman was founded between 1911 and 1913. It got its name from Lemuel "Pete" Sparkman, who owned a sawmill. In 1915, the town started its own newspaper, the Sparkman News. That same year, Sparkman held its first election. Electricity was also installed, bringing modern power to the area.
First School and Churches in Sparkman
The very first school in Sparkman was a two-story building. It had 132 students when it opened. H.O. Theatt was the first principal. Miss Ethel Fite and Miss Ella Adams were the first teachers. A Baptist church was started in 1914. Methodist and A.M.E. churches were formed in 1916.

Sparkman is located in the western part of Dallas County. Arkansas Highway 128 runs through the middle of town. It is known as Main Street. This highway goes southeast for about 11 miles to Highway 9 at Holly Springs.
Major Roads and Area
Arkansas Highway 7 passes along the west side of Sparkman. It goes north with Highway 128 for 10 miles to Highway 8 at Dalark. Highway 7 also goes south for about 27 miles to Camden. The city of Sparkman covers an area of about 1.3 square miles (3.34 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Education in Sparkman: Schools and Sports
The Harmony Grove School District manages the public schools in Sparkman. There are two main schools in the community: Sparkman Elementary School and Sparkman High School. These schools together have fewer than 200 students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Sparkman Raiders: Sports Teams
Sparkman's sports teams are called the Raiders. They compete in various sports at the 1A level. These sports include basketball for both girls and boys, baseball, and softball. Sparkman used to have a football team. They were very good and often played in state playoff games, even with only about 16 players. However, the football team was combined with another school's team in 2004.
