Sprewell Bluff Park facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sprewell Bluff Park is a super cool place to visit in Upson County, Georgia. It's a huge park, about 1,372 acres, located between the towns of Roland and Crest. The park sits right on the Flint River, which makes it perfect for lots of fun water activities. You can go swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and even try whitewater rafting there!

Besides the river, Sprewell Bluff Park has a three-mile walking trail. This trail follows the riverbank and goes up rocky bluffs. From the bluffs, you get amazing views of the park and the river below. This park was created to help people have more places to play and enjoy nature. It was part of a special plan started by Governor Jimmy Carter back in 1972.

Park History

The main river bluff in the park got its name from an early settler named Jeptha Sprewell. He was a pioneer citizen in the area.

The land where Sprewell Bluff Park is located is actually owned by a company called Georgia Power Company. For a while, the State of Georgia leased the land and managed it as a State Park, starting in the 1990s. But in 2013, Upson County took over the job of managing the park. So now, the county helps keep the park awesome for everyone to enjoy.
