Sriya Reddy is an Indian actress, TV host, and video jockey. She is mostly known for her work in Tamil and Telugu cinema films. Sriya is the daughter of Bharath Reddy, a former Indian cricket player. Before becoming an actress, she was a very popular video jockey (VJ) at SS Music.
Sriya Reddy started her acting career in 2002 with the film Samurai. She has appeared in many films in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. Some of her most famous movies include Black (2004), Thimiru (2006), Kanchivaram (2008), and Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023).

Early Life and First Steps
Sriya Reddy was born into a Telugu family. Her father, Bharath Reddy, was a well-known Indian cricketer. Sriya went to Good Shepherd School and later studied at Ethiraj College in Chennai.
When she was young, famous cricketers like Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil visited her home. They even told her she had a good voice! She received offers to be a model during her school days. However, her father wanted her to finish her education first. Later, she got an audition for a big music channel called Southern Spice Music. She convinced her father that she could study and be a VJ at the same time.
Career Highlights
Sriya won a VJ hunt competition held by SS Music. She then started hosting popular shows like Connect and Phonetastic. She became very well-known as 'VJ Sriya' among young viewers.
Starting in Movies
After her success as a VJ, Sriya decided to try acting. Her first movie was a Telugu film, even though her parents were not keen on her acting. Her first film to be released was Samurai in 2002. In this movie, she played a supporting role alongside actor Vikram.
Her first Telugu film, Appudappudu, did not do well. After that, she took a break from films for more than a year. In 2004, she made her debut in Malayalam cinema with the film Black. She played a simple village woman looking for her husband. Her look in the film was very different from her real-life style. Sriya felt this movie was a big moment in her career because she got to act with the famous Malayalam actor Mammootty. That same year, she also acted in an English film called 19 Revolutions.
Notable Roles
In 2005, Sriya had a successful Malayalam action film called Bharathchandran I.P.S.. She played a police officer, and her performance received good reviews. People even compared her to the actress Vijayashanti.
In 2006, she had four film releases. Her two Tamil films became very popular. In the action movie Thimiru, she played a strong, loud woman with a bit of a negative side. Her acting in this role was highly praised by critics. She also appeared in the drama film Veyil. This film received excellent reviews and won several awards, including a National Film Award.
Sriya also played an important role in Priyadarshan's film Kanchivaram. This movie was also highly praised and won a National Film Award. Sriya was nominated for a Filmfare Award and a Vijay Award for her role. After finishing this film, she got married and took a break from acting.
Comeback to Acting
After eight years, Sriya Reddy returned to acting. She made a comeback with a film called Andava Kaanom. In this movie, she plays an angry village woman named Shanthi. More recently, she appeared in the blockbuster film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire in 2023. Her performance in this film earned her nominations for several awards.
Personal Life
Sriya Reddy married actor and producer Vikram Krishna on March 9, 2008, in Chennai. Vikram Krishna is the son of film producer G. K. Reddy and the brother of actor Vishal Krishna. He acted in a few films before becoming a full-time film producer. He mainly produces films starring his brother Vishal. Sriya has also worked as a co-producer on films with her husband. The couple has one daughter named Amalia.
