St Ninian and St Triduana's Church, Edinburgh is a Catholic church in the Restalrig area of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a special place of worship named after two important Scottish saints, St Ninian and St Triduana.
History of the Church
The first church building here was made of wood and opened in 1906. The current church, which you can see today, started being built in 1932. It was officially opened on May 28, 1933.
The church is named after two very old Scottish saints: Ninian and Triduana. These saints are important figures in the history of Christianity in Scotland.
In the 1990s, the church building was updated. During this time, part of the main worship area, called the nave, was changed. This created a new hall that could be used for meetings and other church activities.
The church was designed by a famous architect named Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. He had bigger plans for the church, but they could not be finished. This was because World War II started, which stopped many building projects.
The church is also a "Category B listed building." This means it is officially recognized as an important historical building. It has special architectural or historical value that needs to be protected.
How the Parish Works
Since 2017, the Catholic churches in Edinburgh have been organized into groups called "clusters." This helps them work together better and share their resources.
St Ninian and St Triduana's Church is part of Cluster 1. In this group, it works closely with three other churches:
- St Mary's Cathedral
- St Patrick's Church
- St Albert's Catholic Chaplaincy
This way of organizing helps the churches support each other and serve their communities more effectively.
