Building History
The church was built in 1908. Its design is called Spanish Renaissance Revival. This style looks like old Spanish buildings. It was first known as St. Philomena's Cathedral.
It served as the main church for the Diocese of Omaha. A diocese is an area managed by a bishop. The church was the cathedral until 1916. That's when St. Cecilia's Cathedral was mostly finished.
The famous Omaha architect Thomas Rogers Kimball designed the church. In 1958, the church's name changed. It was renamed to honor Frances Xavier Cabrini. She was the first American citizen to become a saint.
The church became an Omaha Landmark in 1979. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
