Saint Mark United Methodist Church is a special church located in the middle of Atlanta, Georgia. It was built between 1902 and 1903. The people who went to Merritts Avenue Methodist Church built it because their old church was too small.
The church is famous for its beautiful design. It's made from strong granite stone from Stone Mountain. It also has three main doors and amazing stained-glass windows. This building is one of the few churches in Atlanta built in the Gothic Revival style using granite.
This church is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also named a historic building by the City of Atlanta.

History of Saint Mark Church
Building the Church
The church's architect was Willis F. Denny. He also designed two other granite Methodist churches that are still standing today. The church members picked this spot for Saint Mark Methodist Church to have more space. They also wanted to be in a safer area.
Beautiful Stained-Glass Windows
The church has twelve amazing stained-glass windows. These windows show different scenes from the life of Jesus. They were put into the church slowly over many years, from 1909 to 1959.
Growth and Renovations
In the early 1990s, the church almost closed down. But then, many new people joined. The church grew to have over 1,700 members during that time. The main part of the church, called the sanctuary, was updated over 15 years. These updates were finished in 2008.
