St Alban's Church is a special old church in Pāuatahanui, Porirua, New Zealand. It's an Anglican church, which means it belongs to a Christian group called Anglicans. This church is considered a historic place because it's very old and important.
History of the Church
The church you see today was built in 1898. It was designed by a famous architect named Frederick de Jersey Clere. He designed it in a style called Gothic Revival. This style looks a bit like the old churches from the Middle Ages in Europe. This building is actually the second church to be built in Pāuatahanui.
In 1983, Heritage New Zealand officially recognized the church as a historic place. This means it's an important building that should be protected.
The Land's Past
The church building stands on a very old and important site. It was once the location of a pā (a fortified Māori village) called Matai Paua. This pā was built in 1846 by Te Rangihaeata. He was a very important leader of the Ngāti Toa people.
Services Today
Today, church services are still held here every week. You can attend them on Sundays at 11am.
