St. Barnabas, Inham Nook is a church in Chilwell, Nottinghamshire, England. It is part of the Church of England. This church serves the local community in the Inham Nook area.
A Look Back in Time
St. Barnabas Church is located on Inham Road in Chilwell. It stands at the western edge of the Chilwell area. The church first opened its doors in 1957.
Why Was It Built?
St. Barnabas was created to serve a new neighborhood called Inham Nook. This area was built after World War II. It was first known as a "daughter church" of Christ Church, Chilwell. This means it was a new church started by an older, more established one.
From Hall to Church
The building you see today was not originally meant to be the main church. It was planned as a church hall. There was a large empty space next to Inham Road. This space was saved for a future, bigger church building.
Growing with the Community
However, there was not enough money to build a new, separate church. So, over the years, the original hall was changed. It was made suitable for both church services and community events.
A big update happened in 1999. This project changed the building a lot. It now has a main hall that is used for church services. During the week, this hall becomes a community space. It has special shutters that can close off the church's sanctuary area. The building also gained new rooms, a kitchen, and modern restrooms. These additions help support many church and community activities.
