The Church of St Cadoc is a historic church located in Penrhos, a village in Monmouthshire, Wales. This church is very old, with parts of it dating back to the 15th century. That means it's over 500 years old!

Even though it's ancient, St Cadoc's is still an active church today. It has been repaired and updated many times over the centuries. Recently, it had a big renovation to make sure it stays safe and beautiful for years to come. Because of its age and special design, the church is recognized as a Grade II* listed building. This means it's a very important historical building that needs to be protected.

The Church's Long History

This church first came into being in the 1400s, during the 15th century. It was built in a style called "Perpendicular Gothic." This was a popular way to build churches in England and Wales back then. It means the buildings often had tall, narrow windows and strong vertical lines.

Over the years, the church needed some fixing up. It was restored in 1848, and then again in 1878. A famous architect named John Prichard helped with the 1878 work. The church's tower, which is a tall part of the building, was also repaired in 1905.

By 2016, the church was in rough shape. Some parts, like the main area where people sit (called the nave), were not safe to enter. Luckily, a big grant of £121,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund helped pay for major repairs. Now, the church is fully restored and safe for everyone to visit and use.

What the Church Looks Like

St Cadoc's Church is built from a type of rock called Old Red Sandstone. This stone gives the church a warm, reddish-brown color. As mentioned before, its design follows the "Perpendicular" style. This style is known for its tall, slender features and large windows that let in lots of light. Imagine a building that seems to reach up towards the sky!
