History of St Catherine's Church
The church was first built in 1837. A clever architect named Robert Ebbels designed it. The building cost £4,655 to construct. This money was given by John Hambrough, who lived at Steephill Castle.
Later, more parts were added to the church. The chancel, which is the area around the altar, was built in 1849. The south aisle, a side section of the church, was added in 1897.
A person named Windsor Dudley Cecil Hambrough, also from Steephill, was buried in the churchyard in 1893.
