A Look Back in Time

St Luke's Church is really old! It was built way back in the 15th century, which means it's over 500 years old today. People think that a person named Thomas la Warr started building it around the year 1420.

Over the years, parts of the church were updated. For example, the north arcade and aisle were changed in 1819. Later, in 1874, the east end of the church was remodelled by an architect named Benjamin Ferrey.

Special Features of the Church

The church has some interesting old features. One special item is a bell that dates all the way back to 1766. This old bell was made by Thomas Bilbie from the famous Bilbie family, who were well-known bell makers.

Protecting History: A Listed Building

Because St Luke's Church is so old and important, it has a special protection status. English Heritage has named it a Grade II* listed building. This means it's a very important historic building that needs to be preserved and looked after for the future.
