Thomas la Warr, 5th Baron De La Warr (born around 1352, died 7 May 1427) was an important English nobleman. He was the second son of Roger la Warr, 3rd Baron De La Warr and Elizabeth de Welle. Thomas la Warr played a significant role in the church and in society during his lifetime.

Early Life and Church Career
Thomas la Warr was originally meant to join the church. In 1363, he received special permission from the church. This allowed him to become a priest at the age of twenty. He then became a canon in Lincoln. A canon is a type of priest who works with a cathedral.
Serving Many Churches
Thomas la Warr started his first church job on October 13, 1372. Over the years, he held many different positions in the church. He was a rector or a prebend in several towns. These towns included Ashton-under-Lyne, Sleaford, and Manchester. Being a rector meant he was the main priest of a church. A prebend was a church official who received income from a cathedral. He often held several of these jobs at the same time. This was a common practice back then.
Building and Improving Churches
Thomas la Warr was known for his work in building and improving churches. In 1420, he helped build St. Luke's church in Brislington.
Manchester Cathedral
One of his most notable achievements was in Manchester. In 1421, he helped make Manchester Cathedral much larger. He turned it into a collegiate church. This meant it was a church with a college of priests. These priests lived together and served the church. Today, you can see a statue of him on the outside of the Manchester town hall. This shows how important he was to the city.
Becoming a Baron
Thomas la Warr inherited his title and lands in 1398. This happened when his brother, John, passed away. He became the 5th Baron De La Warr.
Role in Parliament
Three years after becoming a baron, he asked to be excused from Parliament. However, he was later ordered to attend in 1403. He died on May 7, 1427. He was likely buried in Swineshead, where he was serving as a priest at the time.
