St Luke's Church in Hickling, Nottinghamshire, is a very old and important church. It is part of the Church of England. This building is special because it is a Grade I listed building. This means it's considered to be of exceptional historical and architectural interest.
A Look Back in Time
St Luke's Church was first built a very long time ago, in the 14th century. That means it's over 600 years old! Over the years, parts of the church have been updated. The chancel, which is the area around the altar, was rebuilt in 1845. Later, in 1873, the church's tower was also rebuilt. A big project to fix up the whole church happened in 1886. This was called a general restoration.
Special Memorials
Inside the church, on the floor of the chancel, there is a special brass plaque from 1521. This plaque is a memorial to Master Ralph Babington, who was the rector of the church. A rector is like the main priest in charge of a church and its parish.
The Church Organ
St Luke's Church has a beautiful pipe organ. This type of organ uses air blown through many pipes to make music. The organ in this church was made by a company called Bryceson.
