St Margaret's Church is a beautiful old building in a village called Cley next the Sea in Norfolk, England. It's a Church of England church, which means it's part of the main Christian church in England. The church is named after Saint Margaret of Antioch.
This church is the biggest one in the Blakeney Haven area. It has a very long main hall, called a nave. The church was mostly rebuilt between the 1320s and the mid-1340s. Later, a large entrance area, known as a south porch, was added before the 1400s.
St Margaret's Church is very special because of its amazing architecture. It's mostly built in a style called Perpendicular, which was popular in England a long time ago. You can also see parts that are Decorated style and an early English style in the chancel, which is the part of the church near the altar.
Inside, you'll find an eight-sided baptismal font, which is a basin used for baptisms. There are also wooden seats with cool carvings and a fancy carved screen called a rood screen. Because of its unique design and history, St Margaret's is considered a very important building. It has a special Grade I listing, which means it's protected for its outstanding architectural value.
The church also has many memorials to remember people who served in wars.
A Special Bird Visitor
How a Rare Bird Helped the Church
In 2008, something very unusual happened in Cley. A white-crowned sparrow was seen there! This bird usually lives in America and is very rarely spotted in the United Kingdom.
Many people who love watching birds, called birders, came to Cley to see this rare visitor. They were so excited that they donated more than £6,000 to help restore St Margaret's Church. To remember this special event, an image of the white-crowned sparrow was later added to one of the church's windows.
