History of St Margaret's Church
The church building might have been first built as far back as the 13th century. That's over 700 years ago!
Changes Over Time
You can see a sundial on the east wall of the church. It has a message carved into it that says Re-edified 1648. This means the church was rebuilt or repaired in the year 1648.
Later, in 1704, a special upper floor or "loft" was added at the back of the church. This area was built by Sir Philip Gell, Baronet. He paid for it himself. The loft was made for his tenants, who were people living on his land in a nearby place called Hopton.
The Church Organ
St Margaret's Church has a musical instrument called an organ. This organ was put into the church in 1932. It was built by a person named Robert Oldacre. You can find more details about this specific organ if you look it up online.
