St Mary's Church in Norton Cuckney is a very old and important church. It is located in the village of Cuckney, England. This church is part of the Church of England. It is a Grade I listed building. This means it is considered a building of exceptional historical and architectural interest.

Right next to the churchyard, you can find the remains of Cuckney Castle. This was once a "motte and bailey" castle. A motte and bailey castle has a large mound (the motte) with a tower on top. It also has a walled courtyard (the bailey). This castle is also a Scheduled Monument. This means it is a nationally important historical site. The government protects it.

History of the Church

The church building is very old. It was first built in the 12th century. That's over 800 years ago! Over the years, the church has been repaired and updated. It was restored in 1667, 1892, and again in 1907.

Working Together

St Mary's Church is part of a group of churches. It shares a parish with two other churches. These are St Winifred's Church, Holbeck and Welbeck College Chapel. They work together in their local community.

Important Memorials

Inside the church, there are special memorials. On the floor of the main part of the church, called the nave, there is a worn stone slab. People believe this slab covers the tomb of Robert Pierrepont, 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull. He was an important person who lived around 1643.
