St Mary Magdalene's Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, England. It is a special place of worship for the local community. The church was built in 1907 in the Gothic Revival style, which means it looks like older Gothic buildings. It is named after Mary Magdalene, a companion of Jesus.

You can find the church in the center of Bexhill. It is on the corner of Sea Road and Magdalen Road. It is also across from Station Road and Bexhill railway station. A famous architect named Arthur Young designed the church. It is a "Grade II listed building," which means it is an important historical building.

The Church's Story

The Catholic community in Bexhill started a "mission" in 1893. A mission is like a new church group. At first, there was a small church and a school in the same building. This building was next to the priest's house.

The church you see today was built between 1906 and 1907. Once the new church was finished, the old building became the church hall. This is a place for meetings and events.

The church was designed by Arthur Young. He became a Catholic later in his life. Arthur Young was born in 1853. He learned about architecture by working with other architects. In 1877, he started his own company. He designed many churches and chapels. Some of his other works include the Benson Memorial Church and Church of Our Lady and St Peter, Aldeburgh. He passed away in 1924 while working on a church.

Inside St Mary Magdalene's Church, there is a painting of the Crucifixion of Jesus. This painting was created by August Neven du Mont. There is also a special memorial for soldiers who served in wars. The church was officially dedicated in 1913.

Serving the Community

St Mary Magdalene's Church is the main church for its "parish." A parish is an area served by a church. This church also helps two other Catholic churches nearby. These are Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sidley and St Martha's Church in Little Common, Bexhill.

Our Lady of the Rosary Church was built in 1954. It was designed by Alex F. Watson. St Martha's Church was built between 1939 and 1940. Marshall Wood designed it.

St Mary Magdalene's Church holds three Sunday Masses. These are at 6:00 PM on Saturday, and 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Sunday. There is also a Mass every weekday morning at 10:00 AM. Our Lady of the Rosary Church has one Sunday Mass at 10:00 AM. St Martha's Church also has one Sunday Mass, which is at 9:00 AM.
